Foskor Phalaborwa situated in Limpopo, focuses on the mining and beneficiation of phosphate rock as well as recovering low concentrates of copper minerals. While Foskor Richards Bay is primarily a producer of phosphoric acid and phosphate based fertilizers, while also distributing lower volumes of sulphuric acid to customers within the South African market. Palama acquired equity in the company as part of a larger consortium of a broadbased structure of different parties.

The founders identified this gap in the market and entered the healthcare distribution sector by offering improved service levels and a wide range of products under one roof. The formula of offering purchasing convenience, quality products and excellent service proved to be successful and Kendon has continually grown over the last 27 years to where the company is now employing 50+ employees which are all dedicated to maintaining the service record that has been the company’s hallmark since inception. Kendon operates from Johannesburg and Durban but supplies country wide to a range of 1 000+ customers. Currently suplying the government of Botswana through local distributors in the country. Med Medical is involved in some major areas of the South African medical industry from Physical Therapy/ Rehabilitation supplies to Rentals of Mobility and Oxygen Supplies, First Aid Supplies and Compression Stockings as well as the supply of medical consumables. Med Medical also has a strong focus on the rental of wheelchairs, beds and a variety of other products to customers. The company fits directly into the growth focus of Palama Group with a view of growing its array of products and services as well as expand its presence nationally. Palama owns 100% of this business

Access Healthcare was awarded with five licenses for the development new private hospitals - two in Mpumalanga three in Gauteng. The two licenses in MP entail a fully-fledged 100-bed hospital facility in Malelane and a fully-fledged 150-bed hospital facility Emalahleni. The Gauteng licenses are for a 100 beds acute hospital each in Cosmo City, a 200 beds in Steyn City and a 150 beds in Pretoria West. We are planning to break ground in the Gauteng sites this year.

Palama Industrial is a division of Palama Group which owns 61%. This company was established in 2015 to provide the South African market with an alternative fan supplier, but more importantly, to leverage the ever growing requirement of clients to procure from black owned and empowered companies. We have a license agreement with CBV of Belgium exclusively for Centrifugal Fans and have successful client references on the refurbishments of Centrifugal Fans. All client interaction with regards to branding, marketing, design, engineering, project management, administration, etc. is executed within Palama Industrial. Palama Industrial already has representation on certain key Client’s vendor’s lists and is awaiting approval on others. We have also retained the consulting services of an industry specialist with more than 40 years of ventilation experience. Current clients include: Anglo American Coal, Sibanye Stillwater, Eskom, etc.

  • Jerry Vilakazi

    Jerry is co-founder and Chairman of Palama. He is the past Chief Executive Officer of Business Unity South Africa (BUSA). Prior to joining BUSA he was Managing Director of the Black Management Forum. In 2009 Jerry was appointed by the State President to the Presidential Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Advisory Council and in 2010 was appointed as a Commissioner on the National Planning Commission. He was previously appointed Public Service Commissioner in 1999 and has played a critical role in shaping major public service policies in the new South Africa. He was the chairman of the Mpumalanga Gambling Board, Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency and the State Information Technology Agency(SITA) stepping down in 2014 and 2015 from all three respectively. He served for seven years as chairman of Netcare Limited the largest private hospital group in SA. He currently holds directorships in JSE listed Blue Label Telecoms and Sibanye Stillwater.   • Doreen Vilakazi

    Doreen was the founder of ExecuPrime which became a significantt player in human resources development the last two decades. She is Chief Operations Office and director of Kendon Medical. Her experience extends to the Retail sector. Under her leadership the group has opened 12 Retail Stores in four provinces. In 2001 Doreen was appointed by the Minister of Trade and Industry to serve in the Telkom’s Diabo Share as a Board Member and recently served on the Johannesburg Zoo Board and chaired the human resources committee. In 1999 Doreen was appointed to head the provincial office of the Public Service Commission (PSC) in Gauteng as an Accounting Officer. As a publisher Doreen managed publishing projects in Swaziland, Eastern Cape Province, Mpumalanga Province and KZNatal Province. Doreen was appointed by the University of Natal to establish and manage a Whole School Development Project in 1995.

  • Stefan Maritz

    Stefan is a Financial Director and Acting CEO of Kendon Medical Supplies. He joined the Palama Group in 2006 and was transferred to Kendon as an executive in 2014. He has extensive experience in transaction structuring and negotiations, business valuations and corporate finance, financial management and accounting and external and internal auditing. He has been employed in various senior and top management positions since 2001 and has gained experience from sharing boardrooms with well known businessmen and women. Stefan has been involved and also managed the negotiations and finalization of acquisitions ranging from R20million to R2,5billion. In his previous working experience he managed the finance divisions of various well-known medium and large sized businesses, ranging from R50million to R2,5billion annual revenue and branches throughout South Africa and the African continent.
